Making reciprocal linking simple.

1) The idea:

Definition: A reciprocal link is an agreement between two website owners to provide a hyperlink on their own website to each others site. Generally this is done to generate traffic and to help users find great products.

Reciprocal linking is something that has been done on the internet for years.
It has got a bad name from directories promising great back links.

But there is still value in the underlining idea that businesses share customers.
So what we need to do is match businesses together that share a common target market.
For example a company making high end children’s clothes and another making luxury children’s furniture share a target, but they do not compete.
So it would be of great value to them to link to each other’s website and share customers.

If you really think about it every business has many many other businesses that it would be ideal to link with.

So the idea is to make this process simple, easy and more effective.
Matching is crucial and refreshing the matches often is also crucial.

The idea came from seeing road signs like this and wondering if the same thing could be done online.

2) Next stage

So I have been thinking about and researching this idea for a while.

I now know the next stage is to test the idea out on a handful of websites.

This is where I am looking to find any websites willing to help me by testing this idea out on their website.
This is of course completely free of charge.

In return you will get the full service of matching with another website in your target market.
As this is a test I cannot guarantee amazing results that’s why I am running the test but what I can say is this could be an amazing tool for your business and the only way to find out is to try it!

Once it has been live for a few days we can see how things are progressing and take it from there.

Benefits for you:
This will either boost your website or have little effect, either way there is no downside and potentially an awesome upside.
This will allow us to test the idea and if it works we can roll it out.

There are a few specific details that will be worked out as we go along the test, mostly I am looking for someone kind enough to help me out and clever enough to see the real benefits this could bring to their business!

3) Does this effect SEO?

Straight forward answer is this will have almost no effect on search engine ranking at all.

If you search through Google’s rules you find that it states excessive link exchange will negatively effect a websites SEO.
This is done to stop the directories offering huge numbers of SEO.

We are talking about 1 back link, even if we matched each person with 3 companies this will not come under excessive.
Therefore it will not have a negative effect on backlinks.

Google actually encourages useful linking between websites.

But I want people to think of this as something away from search engines.
This does not have anything to do with search engines.

This is something simple, helping users to navigate websites that they would be interested in without googling.
If someone is on a website for horse feed then we know they have an interest in horses therefore we can link them to other websites in that market place.
